10 Foods Should You Avoid While Breastfeeding

You should keep up regular meals while breastfeeding period to increase essential nutrients and also to gain breast milk levels, and while not all babies react to the same foods, here are 10 foods that might cause problems. Alcohol

Raw Foods



The problem with raw foods is they both come with the risk of reducing your supply. If used in small quantities they shouldn’t cause an issue. They are such as sushi, beef, sashimi or other foods. You should not eat because it still contains bacteria and other substances that may still be left in the food. But processed foods that have been cooked perfectly is still recommended.

Peppermint And Parsley

There are some fish that contain high in mercury such as king mackerel, swordfish, and tilefish, stingrays, bluefin fish, sharks. These types of fish should not be consumed during breastfeeding. Mercury is toxic, nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. It impacts the nerves and the brain. Follow the same rules for eating fish as you did when you were pregnant and everything should be OK.

Caffeine



You know that caffeine does work its way into your breast milk. Baby isn’t prepared to process caffeine as quickly as an adult, so if you’re hoping that your baby will nap soon, think smart by waiting to have your coffee until after the baby is asleep.

Food containing gas cause an issue for mom and the baby. Beets, peppers, cabbage, broccoli as well as drinks containing soda cause gas on the baby's abdomen.  So, it will experience bloating, aches or pains.


Foods Cause Allergies



Not all babies are allergic to this type of food, but you should avoid foods such as cheese, wheat, eggs, or processed milk. Some moms eat these foods cause allergies, but they may still consume a few but you need to be considered that the condition of the baby. You can substitute cow's milk into soy milk instead. Now, you have to consider to stop eating foods cause allergies to your milk supply. 

Peanut



If there is any history of peanut allergy, make sure not to eat peanuts until after your baby is weaned. The material allergenic in peanuts and tree nuts can be transmitted your supply. If you’re not sure if your baby might have a peanut allergy, watch for wheezing, rash, or hives these can be signs of an allergic reaction.

Chocolate



While you don’t have to reduce chocolate entirely, it is a source of caffeine. Some nursing mothers also find that eating chocolate has a laxative effect—on the baby. You have to watch your baby’s behavior, and diapers—if he/she becomes fussy or has a runny poop after you eat chocolate, that means it’s time to cut back or eliminate it

Garlic


Avoid garlic if you’re expecting to be kissed, but you have to know that garlic smell can get into your milk.  If you find that your baby is occasionally reluctant to nurse, or pulls off while nursing to make faces, see if it coincides with when you last ate something laced with garlic. While most of us think that garlic makes everything better, babies’ palates haven’t matured enough to appreciate it yet.
